Ingredients

  • 1 box 15.25 oz vanilla cake mix (Prepare the mix as directed on the box. You can use yellow white or even lemon-flavored mix.)
  • ½ cup melted butter Melt the butter before adding to the baking dish.
  • 1 ¾ cups packed brown sugar This gives the cake a sweet caramelized flavor.
  • 1 ½ pints blueberries Fresh or frozen blueberries will work. Be sure to spread them evenly.

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 13x9-inch baking dish with a baking sheet.
  2. Prepare the cake batter according to the instructions on the cake mix box. Set aside.
  3. Cut the butter into pieces and place it into the baking dish. Put the dish in the oven for 3-4 minutes or until the butter has melted. Remove the dish from the oven.
  4. Sprinkle the melted butter with brown sugar and use a fork to spread it evenly across the dish. Then, evenly arrange the blueberries on top.
  5. Carefully pour the prepared cake batter over the blueberries and sugar mixture.
  6. Bake the cake in the preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before turning it out onto a large plate or cutting board.
